Sœurs d'armes

Directed by Caroline Fourest

Synopsis

Kenza and Yaël are two young French women who go to Syria to fight alongside the Kurdish forces. There they meet Zara, a Yezidi survivor. Born in different cultures but deeply united, the women-fighters heal their past wounds and discover their present strength, especially the fear they inspire in their opponents. The three young women soon bound together and become true sisters-in-arms.

Sisters in Arms has its heart in the right place, but absolutely nothing else. This film is such a betrayal of the amazing battalion of women in Kurdistan who fought the Daesh because it's a heavy handed, melodramatic, amateurish after school special made for TV movie special episode of some bad French series.

These Queens deserve so much more than this Feminism for Dummies (complete with a ridiculous theme song played during a training montage) which tries so hard to be 'Good', that it isn't any good at all.

EDIT: I never give genuine criticism of a film, but as this film is on a topic I am very passionate about, I felt like sharing my sincere thoughts for a change.

On one hand, it is warming to see a film that genuinely wishes to spread the story of the 2014 Yazidi Genocide and the battalion of women who fought against ISIS. On the other hand, this was a very peculiar approach to take.

The film works to find a balance between:
    (1) making known the struggles of Kurdistan and Yazidi people;
    (2) feminism and paying respect to the Sisters in Arms; and
    (3) being accessible and entertaining enough to share this story with as large an audience as…

Superficial dialogues, representations artificially seeking political correctness, unrealistic characters. The filmmakers made this film with their own orientalist perceptions without doing much research that a terrible film made. Nom de guerres? Red Snake? Lady Kurda? Have you ever met a Kurd? Red Snake?! Rosa Luxemburg an anarchist? Kissing commanders at the end of the movie? A film that is so far from reality, about Kurds without Kurds without any research. This is not only cinematically terrible, but also disrespectful to the people it is talking about.

    Anggota 1: “Baunya.”
    Anggota 2: “Mujahid panggang.”

Der Krieg gegen den DMG - also known as IS - der spanische Bürgerkrieg unserers Jahrhunderts.

Unsere Mütter kämpften und unsere Töchter werden kämpfen. Auf das sie alle diese Wichser in ihre Hölle schicken.

An interesting story with an incredibly mixed execution.

So this takes the fight against ISIS and more or less turns it into a Hollywood action film. I personally felt that something a bit grittier and and less flashy would be more appropriate for such a recent and devastating conflict. Now its portrayal of what it was like to be a female captive of ISIS is nothing short of harrowing. But these scenes are intercut with montages of the foreign fighters training with its own inspirational pop theme tune. It just didn't fit tonally for me. Now once the two storylines (and tones) finally meet in the second half the film does seem more consistent even if some of the action…

Truly awful. The women who fought in the Kurdish army deserve so much better than this film.

Not my cup of tea of Movie.

a young lady named Zara is kidnaped and tortuerd by the Muslim exstremist, soon she maniges to escape and Joins up with another groupe of women who are dead set on trying to kill the Exstremists. To me this felt like a mix of Call of Duty and Battle feild games mixed in from how the women were fighting to the setting of the whole Movie. Overall it was not my cup of tea of Movie from start to End.

    2 out of 10

    No Rewatch in Future.
